Hi friend!
You’re receiving this email because you attended one of my events or opted into emails on my website. I’m humbly stretching out my hand and asking you to join me on a journey to make the world a more connected, communal, and transcendent place.
Post Nightlife is a new every-so-often (twice a month?) newsletter where I’ll link you to essays I’m writing, insights I’m learning, events I’m hosting, quotes I’m inspired by, and of course tribal DJ mixes.
I’m holding two values high in this newsletter journey:
Only share the best shit
Keep it short
With that said – here’s some dope shit to chew on. (eww)
Book Updates
Note: The cover and title will def change…
Next week I’m interviewing some of the folks behind Boiler Room, Mindvalley, and Silent Barn. Big week.
I’ve hit 40,000 words! I’d hazard that I’m just under halfway.
I recorded a podcast with the famed International Party Scientist, Jacques Martiquet! We went deep into my mission to spread a conscious nightlife center to every town with a Starbucks.
Dive In Magazine published a rad interview about my book.
I’m writing:
Jamming With New Age Hippies Changed My Life – This is about my journey opening up to my societally repressed musicality. Musicians are everyone.
Notes from the book Get Together – Get Together is hands down the best book for an IRL community builder. Are you starting an event with a focus on community? Buy it and thank me later.
I’m reading:
The Body Keeps The Score
Insights and quotes:
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a profound therapy for putting trauma to rest. It is radical and deceptively simple.
Trauma restricts our natural tendency to imagine and play. When traumatized men were shown inkblots, they saw… “just a bunch of ink.”
Talk therapy is mostly ineffective for true PTSD. Or as Bessel Van Der Kolk says, “Helping victims of trauma find the words to describe what has happened to them is profoundly meaningful, but usually it is not enough.”
The ability to act is the key to avoiding the worst effects of trauma. “Being able to move and do something to protect oneself is a critical factor in determining whether or not a horrible experience will leave long-lasting scars.”
Trauma before the age of 7 is so serious and so sad. Traumatized children and teens could use our help way more than all of the workshop junky hippies (no offense, I’m one of y’all)
Music inspiration:
You may know that I’m a wedding DJ, and I’m increasingly interested in merging my passion for music, authentic relating, play, ritual, and ecstatic experiences into one symphonic powerhouse offering. It’s certainly all happening. I feel aligned – but there’s so much room for weddings to become more profound. People are often bored. I want to help start a boutique wedding design agency in South Florida. If you have a contact who can help, message me.
I’ve been carefully curating a playlist of Brazilian medicine music. Soft and spiritual songs to uplift you. Gorgeous vocals of course. Less mantra, more groove.
Upcoming Events:
July 24 – Dance with me at Daybreaker Miami (Miami)
July 24 – Super secret Ecstatic Playground potluck that’s not a secret anymore, whoops (Miami)
July 25 – I’m leading human connection games at Be You Disco (West Palm)
August 7 – Ecstatic Playground collab with Pam Zapatas (launching soon) (Miami)
Thank you.
Really. If you feel inspired to make someone’s life better, then I did my job. P.S. Let me know how I can improve Post Nightlife! And don’t forget to…
